Taking a UK Staycation This Autumn
We have had a difficult couple of months getting used to the new normal of life with COVID. Many of us will have spent summer feeling a little put out as many people had to cancel or amend holiday plans in the wake of the lockdown. Luckily, there has been a number of different things returning to normal recently, and we are actually able to get out and about more. As a result of this, the travel experts are predicting that we are going to see a massive rise in the number of UK-based staycations. With this in mind, here are some top tips to help you get the most out of your trip away.
Keep an Eye on Guidelines
Whilst the most stringent rules of lockdown have been somewhat relaxed over the course of the last few weeks, it has been nice to get out of our homes. The thing to remember is that the government can impose local lockdowns on places that see a rise or flare-up of cases. This has happened a number of times already in Leicester and more recently in the North of England. Keep an eye on what is happening in the places that you are keen to travel to before you book anything or make any final decisions.
Ensure You are Prepared
Heading away to a different part of the country is always exciting, but now you are going to have to take extra steps in ensuring that you and your family are safe. We are all getting used to the idea of having a face mask on our person any time we head out in public. It’s best to ensure you have a supply of these packed in your luggage along with extra hand sanitiser and personal cleaning products. Places like shops and service stations see a lot of footfall, so you need to be mindful of where you’re going and surfaces that you’re touching.
Undiscovered Britain
With all of us in the same boat, Britain is set to see a huge influx of domestic tourism. All the places that people are keen to visit are likely to be inundated with Brits looking for a weekend away on top of the usual international tourists. You should look to broaden your horizons and do some research into lesser-known places across the whole country to visit. Looking at the Midlands for example, many people wouldn’t consider the area surrounding Birmingham as a tourist destination, but there is loads on offer here, not least the luxury Belfry Hotel that recently re-opened its doors to guests.
Organising Activities
Autumn is a great time to take a break as there are school holidays and non-peak travel times to take advantage of. It’s also a time to think about what type of holiday you want to take and what you want to do while you’re away. We all know that the Autumn weather in the UK can be a little unpredictable, to say the least, so you might be inclined to look at some suitable indoor things to do. Again, as with the current situation, a lot of public attractions are exercising caution and encouraging people to book ahead where possible, so bear this in mind while you are still in the organisation phase of your trip.
We are lucky to live in a country that is diverse and has a broad range of experiences on offer. Many Brits are intent on chasing the sun and trying to get a beach holiday in the likes of Spain, Italy, or the South of France. The reality is that there is so many undiscovered places on our doorstep to take advantage of. The next wee while will give many holidaymakers a chance to experience some of these places, just remember to take care of yourself in the current climate.
